Everything sits on one easy level: four air-conditioned bedrooms, each effectively with its own shower room, an air-conditioned living room with a double sofa bed, a fully equipped kitchen and even a second kitchenette, so early risers and late diners never get in each other's way.

Outside, the brand-new pool anchors a walled, private garden dotted with olive trees, with a covered terrace for shaded barbecue lunches and a colourful sun deck where children can play in sight of every sun lounger. With private parking behind the gate and pets welcome too, the whole family travels together, nobody compromises.

This holiday house sits in Konjevrate, a peaceful village in the countryside behind Šibenik, with a local shop just along the road and one of Croatia's great natural wonders practically next door: the Lozovac entrance to Krka National Park, gateway to the famous Skradinski Buk waterfalls and their wooden walkways over rushing emerald water, is just a 20-minute drive away, as is the pretty riverside town of Skradin, where boats glide up to the falls.

The coast answers back in equal measure. Šibenik's old town, a stone maze of steep lanes crowned by the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St James, carved entirely from limestone and marble, is within a 20-minute drive, and the family-friendly Solaris beaches with their clear, shallow water lie just beyond, also around 20 minutes by car. Between the waterfalls one way and the Adriatic the other, every day offers two directions to choose from.
