Beyond an arched stone entrance and up a tiled, wrought-iron stairwell, the apartment opens into a bright living and dining room finished with a dark geometric-panelled feature wall, a grey sofa and a small dining table for easy meals in.

The open-plan kitchen comes with an induction hob, oven, dishwasher and coffee machine, so cooking a Modenese meal at home is as easy as stepping out for one. The bedroom, dressed in the same dark panelling, opens directly onto a private terrace over the rooftops of the historic centre, and the ensuite bathroom's curved, sculpted wall niche gives the whole apartment a distinctly bohemian, design-led feel. The surrounding streets are lined with cafés, traditional restaurants and wine bars that capture Modena's food culture, and nearby Vicolo Coccapani is one of the city's most characterful corners to wander through. Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport is roughly a 30-minute drive away, and public transport is within walking distance for exploring further afield.
